About FOSTAC
What is FOSTAC?
Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC) is an initiative by FSSAI to ensure that food business operators and personnel are well-trained in food safety standards. It's a mandatory training and certification program for industry personnel involved in food production, processing, packaging, storage, and transport.
What We Do
- FICSI offers comprehensive FOSTAC training programs aligned with Schedule 4 of Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011 under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
- Our FOSTAC courses are designed to educate participants about the critical importance of food safety in the industry.
- We teach safe handling practices, preparation techniques, and food manufacturing standards to maintain quality, improve customer satisfaction, and support business growth.
Note: FoSTaC training will be conducted in offline classroom mode as per the guidelines of FSSAI.
Importance of FOSTAC Training
This food safety training is a large-scale program mandated by FSSAI. It equips food business operators with essential knowledge to maintain quality and safety standards at their workplaces. FOSTAC training has been made compulsory for all Central and State licensed food businesses by FSSAI.
As an empanelled partner, FICSI conducts FOSTAC trainings and provides certification to successful candidates. We offer flexible learning options to suit your needs.
Types of FOSTAC Training Courses
FICSI offers 19 specialized FOSTAC courses divided into Basic and Advanced categories. We also provide specialized training on COVID-19 safety guidelines for the food manufacturing and processing industry.
FOSTAC Basic Training
Designed for food handlers, supervisors, and individuals in small-scale food businesses.

Qualification Requirements
- For food handlers/supervisors: Minimum Class 5th education
- For Students/Others: 10+2 passed with science background
- Mode of instruction: Offline Classroom mode
- Duration: 4 hours
FOSTAC Advance Training
Who can apply for FOSTAC Advance training?
- Individuals supervising food handlers and employees in direct contact with food materials
- Professionals seeking specialization in dairy, meat, poultry, bakery, or health supplements
- Those promoting hygienic practices and food safety culture in food businesses
Who can benefit from FOSTAC Advance Training?
- Food handlers, supervisors, and individuals in food businesses with State & Central Licensing
- Students and entrepreneurs planning to start their own food business ventures
Qualification Requirements
For food handlers/supervisors:
- Degree in Science with Chemistry/Biochemistry/Food and Nutrition/Microbiology, or
- Diploma in Food Technology/Dairy Technology/Oil Technology/Veterinary Science, or
- Any relevant Degree/Diploma with at least one year of supervisory experience
For Students/Others:
- Final year students in Food Science/Nutrition/Hospitality/Chemistry, or
- Diploma in relevant fields, or
- Diploma with industrial training/6 weeks experience in relevant sector
- Mode of instruction: Offline
- Duration: 7-8 hours
